Great Artists Reflection
Fo our great Artists project, the class chose to do Corita Kent as our artist. Corita was a nun in the 1950s and 60’s. Most of the art she does are of words and sayings, inspirational words and sayings. She tough a few art classes were she sometimes would give cards with holes in them, so her students can look at the world one bit at a time, and see the details. We started thinking of ideas to do one of them was to spell her name in a different font for every color, so each of us painted two letters and in they end it spelled Sister Corita Kent. For some of us this took a while to accomplish, because we had to find a font we liked, then paint it, and finally find a cool frame for it.
Another project we did was print out a big picture of our selves in black and white, then put colored tissue paper on it. I made my pants a light blue, and the design on my shirt red. too stick the tissue paper on we had a brush and painted the glue on the picture where the colored tissue paper would be. In all the pictures we are doing different posses to represent us, so I have my hands on my face in a funny way. To finish it off we found a cool font we liked and printed our name in that font, then pasted next to our own picture.
We also did our own personal project were we decided what we wanted to do. I decided I wanted to make A collage type thing of famous people and their well know quotes. I started off by picking a canvas, and printing out a article of Sister Corita Kent. I glued this to the canvas as a background, because I saw that some of her art has a like newspaper background. Not much later I went to the art store and bought some water colors, I choose water colors because it is easy to see through them. I then painted a diagonal rainbow over the article. On my computer I picked out 8 pictures, they were Winston Churchill, the moon landing, Homer, Elvis, attack of 911, Sheldon Cooper, and HAL 9000 from 2001 a Space Odyssey. Then for all of them I put quotations that go with them well. I pasted the pictures on then painted the rainbow again over them, then I stuck the quotations in different colors next too the pictures. For the end I modged podged it so all the glued stuff will stay down.
On the night of Great artists, everyone seemed to love our room. They were really interested to know who Corita Kent was A lot of people came in to our room, they saw all the art, we also had a video playing about her, people watched that, so they all seemed happy. In conclusion I think we were all really happy with what we accomplished.
