Space Race Reflection
For the Space Race project I worked with Taelon. We chose the space race because both of us were interested in space and the cold war. We didn’t include the Moon Race because we did not have enough time. The first thing we did was make an expectations document. In it we wrote what we wanted to do. We wanted to do a timeline with a comic explaining the order of events.
For researching we found a video that had the whole space race. The first part of the video was about at the end of World War 2 Germany fired a rocket into London. After that America and Russia both wanted this rocket, but to get the rocket they have to find the creator. His name is Wernher von Braun; he was the one who designed the rocket, also known as the V2. Von Braun hid in the snowy part of Germany. America was the one to find him. But, Russia did not give up; they were able to get their rocket engineer named Sergey who has just gotten out of prison. Now they are going to race to get a satellite, dog, and man into space. When we were watching it in class it felt like we not going be able to finish it, so I ended up going home and finish it in one sitting.
After the researching we started the timeline. To make the timeline we went online and found a program that allows you to make a full-length timeline called Xtimeline. We put about 5 events every day in the timeline in till we got all dates and important events form the documentary. For getting the events that did not have the date or enough info we would go on Wikipedia and look it up and find what we needed to know. About half way into making the timeline we noticed that we did not have enough time to make the comic, so instead we decided to make the timeline bigger. The timeline ended up having 44 events. Some problems we hade was being not enthusiastic with the project; such as we did not follow the schedule and let time slip away. Most of the events we put on the timeline we did at home, because it felt like there was less distractions at home.
When we presented the project on Monday we showed the class our timeline and summarized the space race for them. I was happy with what we accomplished, I think our teacher was also proud with what we accomplished. Overall we didn’t get everything we needed done, but I still learned the whole Space Race.
